New social and affordable homes in Cairns

We are delivering 490 social, affordable and specialist disability homes for seniors and people living with disability in Cairns.

Supported by the Queensland Government’s $2 billion Housing Investment Fund, the master planned precinct will be located in the Cairns suburb of Woree.

The new development will provide 490 x 1 and 2-bedroom apartments for seniors and people living with disability. The precinct will include 245 social, 223 affordable and 22 specialist disability apartments.

The homes are designed for those who want to downsize and enjoy supported independent living, while freeing up under-occupied social homes to be used for larger households.

The precinct has been architecturally designed to incorporate modern, low maintenance and energy efficient homes set amongst landscaped gardens and picnic grounds.

The Woree site is located with direct access to transport routes, the Bruce Highway, local shopping centre and the Woree Aquatic Centre.

The project will be delivered by FCC Construction and local modular supplier Modscape.

Once complete and tenanted, registered community housing provider Community Housing Limited (CHL) will manage the homes and work with support partners to deliver lifestyle programs aimed at reducing social isolation and encouraging active lifestyles.

Construction is due to be completed by the end of 2026 (subject to wet weather delays).
